Bigbang is a Norwegian rock band started in 1992. The current lineup consists of lead singer and guitarist Øystein Greni, Olaf Olsen on drums and Nicholas Hængsle Eilertsen on bass. Epic Scrap Metal is their eight studio album.

A lot has happened since the last studio album, Edendale (2009). It is no longer important to be clever. This time the band lets each song live its own life. The vibe is laidback, the energy is high – and the nerve is more important than ever.

The idea for the album title appeared for the vocalist Øystein Greni when he passed a recycling station in Los Angeles, where he has lived for the past few years, called “Star Scrap Metal “. It’s just what the band does, using old items to create something again. Greni himself loves the idea of maintenance and reuse, and has also built up his studio in LA with old recording equipment and recycled material. Old items have a story, a soul – but is often considered as scrap. Epic Scrap Metal is both a term for old scrap metal, and a metaphor for battered souls. Maintenance and recycling is a picture of the band to defy adversity.

- This record would be wrecked if you tried to polish it and create a complete sound. Maybe we have gone too far, that at times this sounds bad – but I think it sounds absolutely fantastic, says Greni.

- The title track “Epic Scrap Metal” says fuck off to anyone who criticizes Bigbang because we do not fit into a specific genre. Why would you limit yourself, when you love so many types of music? Our mission in music is that formatting is the devil, he continues.

The varied album includes the party track “Cigarette”, the delicate yet powerful single “Everybody And Their Broken Hearts”. Greni have also been joined by American singer Lissie on the dramatic duet “No One”.
- The song is about daring to live with your heart on your sleeve, deal with things and move on with your life when things doesn’t work out. I’ve tried to steer clear of obscure and vague lyrics, it’s better to be specific, says lead singer and songwriter Greni.

References to bands such as Led Zeppelin, Al Green, Sonic Youth, Van Halen, White Stripes and Tom Petty appear when the band talks about the albums musical inspirations. In addiction to a bunch of neighbours from Grenis own neighborhood in LA that contribute on “Cigarette”, Thomas Seltzer aka Happy Tom from Turbonegro also contributes on the track “Kill My Buzz”.

- The nerve and the feelings are in charge on this album. Things will not sound perfect, and that’s okay, Greni concludes.
