WHEN I GROW UP
When I Grow Up released a four track demo on Soundcloud on September 24th. Since then, the band has performed a number of shows around Copenhagen and is getting ready to play at Loppen. For the upcoming concert at Loppen (December 2nd) they will play their new demo and more brand new tracks in the genre of electro-pop. Synthetic vocal effects and heavy beats flow together into a forceful sound that calls for dancing!
When I Grow Up was formed by songwriters Molly Zacho and Cecilie Penny in the spring of 2014. The two are childhood friends from Aarhus and this influence can be seen in the band’s lyrics as well as the inquisitive approach to sound and form. The upcoming concert at Loppen will also be When I Grow Up’s first concert with producer Steffen Johs who helps take the sound in new and more experimental directions.
EXIT FIELDS
Exit Fields is a band that despite their short time together remains focused and firm to remain on the Danish music scene. The band has been formed on the basis of musical relationships, and the bonds between members has quickly become solid. The songs are based on relatable topics inspired by the basic things that make up humanity – everything from love to hate and all emotions in between.
Their debut EP is focused on a grandiose sound where they move in electronic sounds with pop melodies. The songwriting process is not focused solely on fitting into one genre, but as the EP shows it balances on the border between electronic pop and rock.
Exit Fields consists of: Benjamin Nielsen (vocals, guitar), Sean Elsborg (guitar, vocals), Jonas Gundtoft (synthesis, programing, vocals), Stefan Luth (drums, vocals). Members come from all over Denmark – Jutland, Vejle, Viborg and Langå – but all are now living in Copenhagen and excited to be part of the growing music scene in the city.
JOHANN KOLSTRUP
Johann grew up in the Danish town Skive when Britpop dominated Great Britain. The beats made it all the way to Skive where new British bands quickly added to records from John Lennon, Neil Young, John Lee Hooker, Joy Division, The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays that Johann had nicked from his dad’s record collection.
Johann has – In parallel with his studies in Cell Biology at University of Copenhagen – played in different musical constellations with, for instance, SMALL (Now Slowolf) and the duo Cat Caught Lark that among others supported Mads Langer.
Now Johann is ready with his debut album as a solo artist. The album consists of ten catchy straight forward melodies with compositions uncompromisingly cut to the bone with lyrics about city life and longing delivered by Johann’s fine vocals winding around solid beats and guitar riffs.
Johann’s work continues in Copenhagen after time spent in New York, where he has assembled a band consisting of Ole Bjørn Sørensen and Piotrek Wasilewski (Dúné), drummer Emil Timmermann and guitarist Jakob Miang.
